Luis Felipe Patiño,
born in Bogotá, Colombia, Luis Fernando Patiño is an internationally accomplished drummer, percussionist, and session musician with over 20 years of performing experience. Known for his exceptional genre versatility-spanning Jazz, Funk, Latin Music, Regional Mexican, Rock, and Fusion. He currently serves as the Principal Drummer on Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas the world’s largest cruise ship, leading the largest live orchestra at sea.
His musical journey began at age five with maracas llaneras before taking to the drum set at age 11. Over two decades, Luis Fernando built a rigorous technical and stylistic foundation, studying under renowned Cuban master Fran Calzadilla (Ph.D. in Music) and at Universidad Distrital (ASAB). At 18, he traveled to Cuba for intensive masterclasses with legendary drum icons Enrique Pla (Irakere) and Oliver Valdés (Interactivo), later earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Universidad Sergio Arboleda.
Driven by his multi-genre adaptability, Luis Fernando has anchored over 20 diverse ensembles, backed prominent chart-topping Latin artists, and performed alongside international headliners across high-production cruise ship stages. As a sought-after session artist, his track record includes more than 40 studio drum recordings for prominent global projects.
Having performed extensively with major fleets including Carnival Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean, Luis Fernando Patiño currently delivers nightly high-precision, dynamic performances on Icon of the Seas to thousands of spectators worldwide.
